Through Their I's
Anita Alston

The Inspiration:
Anita Alston grew up in the foster care system and like many others, faced       many challenges.   Unlike some others, Anita beat the odds to become successful in all of her life pursuits.

The Action:

Anita Alston founded Through Their I's-Mentoring Program (Interdependence, Insight, Information and Inspiration) in November 2005 to educate, uplift and support young people in foster care.  The mission of the organization is to provide youth between the ages of 13 and 20 with mentors for guidance, support and direction as they prepare for life beyond foster care.  The mission will be achieved through the support of dedicated individuals and the healthy, fulfilling relationships that form as a result of regular, positive interaction.  The organization's success will be evidenced by a decline in involvement in drugs, gangs and sexual activity among the young people.
