Mfon Ufot

The Inspiration

Many Nigerian and other African youth and their families fled their home countries and relocated to the United States to seek refuge from the turmoil and economic conditions in their countries.  Adjusting to their new environment has been a struggle for some.

The Action

Ms. Mfon Ufot is the founding president of the Coalition of Concerned Africans.  She later established the Coalition Youth Mentoring Program to address the needs of African refugee and immigrant youth settling in the United States.   The program offers support, homework assistance and mentoring to refugee youth.  Students meet every Saturday morning for tutorials and assistance with homework. Outings to interesting places and events in Atlanta were recently incorporated into the program.  Some of these students will be graduating from college next year! Mfon believes that any child can excel if given the opportunity and resources to do so.
