Miss Edith Harvey

The Inspiration:

Miss Edith Harvey retired from hospital food service but she could not just sit back and spend more time with her 11 children and six stepchildren.  She saw that many parents at the hospital needed a break from taking care of their sick children.  So she volunteered to watch, change and rock some of the babies at night.

The Action:

In addition to rocking babies at the hospital, Miss Edith began volunteering with Gwinnet County Senior Services in 1978.  She has volunteered more than 17,000 hours and helped prepare more than a million meals for seniors in the past 29 years.  Miss Edith also volunteers with the Lawrenceville Housing Authority and has also been a mentor for more than 100 inmates that have been assigned to work in the Lawrenceville Senior Center kitchen and reckons that, "not one has gone back bad."

93 year old Miss Edith thinks that seniors can still make a difference and do something good every day and as long as possible.
